Public Statement regarding Gilberdyke Parish Council becoming sole trustee of the Gilberdyke and District War Memorial Hall and Playing Field Charity

Public Statement

Gilberdyke Parish Council, as the local authority for the parish of Gilberdyke, declare a willingness, enthusiasm and pride in assuming the Sole Trusteeship of the Gilberdyke and District War Memorial Hall and Playing Field Charity.

The War Memorial Hall in Gilberdyke has served the area and its inhabitants for 100 years. The Parish Council will endeavour to the best of its ability, to continue, extend and expand that legacy.

Irrespective of the individuals who represent Gilberdyke Parish Council, as a body, the Council, in its capacity as the local authority, commit to:

  • Ensuring that all Councillors understand the duties and responsibilities of the Council acting as the Sole Trustee.
  • Supporting the Charity with all of the necessary funding in lieu of any lease previously agreed between the Charity and the Council as the local authority. This commitment is covered in further detail in a separate Funding Agreement.
  • Agreeing with the previous trustees on the structure and terms of reference of a Committee to assure the effective day-to-day management of the Charity, to ensure an effective transition of trusteeship and the continuation of Hall activities for public benefit.
  • Maintaining an effective record-keeping process to ensure that the assets of the Charity are never used by the Council as the local authority, and to provide maximum transparency to the public of these records.
  • Agreeing and publishing a document to manage any conflicts of interest that may arise, and publishing the outcome of any such occurrences.
